Paramedic Canada has owned EC3D since 2023 compression stockings

Founded in 1987, Paramedic has become a leading manufacturer and distributor of specialized medical products across Canada. Our distribution center supplies pharmaceutical retailers, distributors, medical retailers, and healthcare institutions. Among its notable acquisitions, in 2023, Paramedic successfully integrated EC3D's two most promising segments: compression stockings and orthotics.

The beginnings of EC3D

In 2005, Michelle Simon, a renowned seamless knitting expert, joined forces with Carine Villeneuve, the Gilbert brothers, Daniel Ayoub, and surgeon Dr. Jean-Raymond Spenard to found EC3D. In 2023, Paramedic-Canada acquired part of the company, specifically the production of compression stockings and orthotics. The clothing collections are no longer available.

Expertise

EC3D Sport , compression stockings perfectly calibrated to improve recovery after physical exertion. Naturally, the EC3D orthopedic range follows with products targeting the most common sports injuries.

The primary objective behind each design is the comfort , well-being and satisfaction of the user while maximizing biomechanical functionality (stability, muscle alignment, etc.) for preventive , recovery or healing purposes. EC3D three-dimensional engineering technology compression stockings are developed in association with a network of health specialists (physicians, chiropractors, orthotists), athletes of all levels.

Surrounding ourselves with these athletes and doctors has made it possible to:

  • scientifically validate our processes;
  • push innovation ever further;
  • test our products with real consumers, under the watchful eye of health professionals;
  • develop products taking into account real expertise in physiology;
  • stay ahead of the curve in terms of functionality and application areas offered.

Catalyst for the evolution of the compression market in Quebec

The uniqueness of our stockings, both in terms of quality, innovation and calibration precision (from 20 to 25 or 25 to 30mmHg) have surprised the medical world and forced the market to adapt and evolve. Especially since our products are more affordable for customers and our EC3D orthopedic range is reimbursed by the majority of private insurance companies and the RAMQ, the SAAQ and the CNESST 1 . It is also certified by Health Canada and the FDA 2 as a class 1 medical device. 3

A 100% Quebec design

From concept to delivery, EC3D's products are 100% Quebec-made. All raw materials come from North America. Design, knitting, sizing, and all testing are done at our head office in Laval, and our valued suppliers are local. For us, this is about limiting our ecological footprint by reducing transportation while ensuring exceptional quality control from start to finish.

Anecdote! The invention of the twist stocking

A dual-calibration compression stocking. A unique invention that modifies the stocking's compression " with a single twist " to help athletes reduce muscle soreness and fatigue.

Even today, we sometimes see companies, even world-renowned ones, creating products similar to ours. However, their design fails to take into account the complex biomechanics of the human body, comfort, mobility, and the medical aspect that requires rigor and expertise.

EC3D from 2005 to today

  • 2005 - Founded by Michelle Simon, Carine Villeneuve, Daniel and Gilbert Ayoub (co-founders of Gildan) and Dr. Jean-Raymond Spenard.
  • 2006 - Creation of the first models of the AngelCare range
  • 2007 - Creation in parallel of the first EC3D orthopedic and EC3D sports compression garments.
  • 2007 - Arrival of an angel investor from Chicago: Magellan Development.
  • 2008 - First co-development contract with a company seeking our compression expertise for a line of triathlon clothing.
  • 2009 - Remarkable entry into the medical compression market, with the only products calibrated between 20 and 25mmHg
  • 2009 - Our Kmeleon sports range gets a makeover. It is renamed EC3D sport.
  • 2010 - Invention of the first Twist stocking, a revolution for leg recovery after sporting activity.
  • 2016 - Invention of the second Twist sock to correct or reduce supination or pronation, while minimizing discomfort due to minor foot problems (e.g., false flat feet).
  • 2019 - Purchase of the shares of Jean-Raymond Spénard and Gilbert Ayoub by Michelle, Carine and Daniel.
  • 2020 – Creation of washable and reusable masks.
  • 2023 - Closure of clothing collections and sale of stocking and orthotic collections to Paramedic Canada.
