Dave Stala was born in Poland, he came to Canada when he was 8 years old. At a young age he played soccer, basketball, hockey and started to play football at the age of 16. He found his love for the sport by playing touch football and then went on to play for Cathedral High School where he won 3 championships. He was also a part of the schools OFFSA basketball championship team in 1998. The following year he attened Saint Mary’s University, where he studied marketing. Dave helped the undefeaded Huskies win their first of two Vanier Cups in 2001, where he had a big play in that game known as “the catch”. Named to the conference all-star team as reciever, kicker and punter as well as a CIS all-star in 2002, he helped the Huskies win their back to back Vanier Cup that year. The following summer he was selected 50th overall in the CFL draft by the Montreal Alouettes.
